There is a range of cabin levels and prices on ships from every cruise line, from the least expensive inside rooms to the most expensive huge staterooms. But for each cruise line, the range of prices and the levels of service vary. Some cruise lines are very economical while others are more luxurious and much more expensive. Which cruise lines are best for your will depend not only on what you can afford, but also on what level and types of service and ammenities you desire on a cruise. My wife and I prefer to travel on the more economical cruise lines. We have traveled on some of the more expensive and luxurious cruise lines but we did not feel that the premium service and luxuries provided were worth the extra cost for us. The luxury cruise lines tend to feature better cabins, more gourmet food, a higher ratio of service staff to the number of passengers, and generally feature smaller ships with less passengers. But, for my wife and I, we find the cabins and food just fine on the more economical cruise lines. Gourmet food is not important to us so that does not make the more expensive cruise lines worth it to us. We like bigger ships because they usually have a lot more entertainment venues, especially many bars and lounges with many different types of live music available simultaneously. This gives us the ability to select among many live music venues, or to just hop from one to the next. The smaller more luxurious ships tend to have less venues and less choice in live music. Personally we'd rather go on 2 or 3 economically priced cruises than just one expensive luxury cruise for the same amount of money. Some of the luxury cruise lines do charge 2, 3 or even 4 times as much as an economical cruise line for the same cabin type on a cruise with the same itinerary of ports. However, do keep in mind that the smaller luxury ships are often able to visit ports, bays and rivers that are not open to the larger cruise ships. The more expensive cruise ships also sometimes visit unusual and exotic destinations that are rarely visited by the budget cruise lines.
