This is our second visit to Puntarenas, Costa Rica. We previously visited this port on a Panama Canal Cruise on the Carnival Miracle on Saturday, January 20, 2018. On that cruise we were traveling with a group of people and did our shore excrusions in a private chartered van. To see what we visited in Puntarenas on that cruise, see: CruiseRookeis.com/photos/2018/01/2018a13a/2018a20a.html. From here on, all the ports that we'll be stopping at are ones that we've been at many times before. When you live on the West Coast, the Mexican Riviera is the most popular cruise for inexpensive short cruises just like the Caribbean is for those on the East Cost.
Points of Interest: Coffee Plantation & Sarchi. Tucked in the picturesque rolling mountains of Naranjo, the 640-acre Espiritu Santo Cooperative Coffee Plantation grows high-quality Arabica beans. During your tour of the plantation and processing plant, you'll learn how the organic coffee is grown, cared-for, harvested, and may even see workers picking from the plants or taking care of the final process of preparing and packing the coffee for exporting purposes. After a visit to an authentic replica of a Costa Rican laborer house, you'll learn how cacao was toasted, grinded and turned into delicious chocolate by Costa Rican ancestors. On your return to Puntarenas, you'll stop in the handicraft center of Sarchi, home to the world's largest oxcart. After photos in the main square, you'll visit the Eloy Alfaro Oxcart factory, see artisans at work, browse for mementos, and enjoy fruits and refreshments. Child Price: 12 & under reduced
Someone came up to me the other day and said: "I know you, you're the guy from the Fountain Duo that plays the guitar." I replied: "Sorry, but I don't play any music but I do love live music." She then said: "It must be the hat and the glasses," and I had to reply: "Yes, first time I saw him I though he looked a lot like myself." From a distance, I don't think even I could tell us apart.
Comedy Duo Alfred & Seymore had a flight mixup coming in from Hawaii and were not able to board the ship. Meanwhile, Trumpeter & Vocalist Dan Delgado was supposed to board the ship in Ecuador, but since we skipped that port, he had to fly to Costa Rica and boarded the ship today. Princess did a quick substitution and featured Dan Delgado today instead of the Comedy Duo.
The name "Dan Delgado" sounds very family to me and I swear I've seen him perform somewhere. That is very likely as I am a huge jazz fan and often go to see jazz performances throughout Southern California, which is where Dan Delgado also performs. He is actually from Anaheim, California, where my wife and I lived for 30 years and still maintain a Vacation House that we frequent during winter months. So, the chances that we've seen him perform before are very high.
Since the Princess Sapphire House Band was drafted into an impromtu performance in the Princess Theater with Dan Delgado at 7:30pm and 9:30pm, they could not keep their appointment to perform in the Wheelhouse Bar this evening. Instead they featured Acoustic Guitar & Vocals with Danny Rembadi.
