We always try to arrive at least a day or two before our cruise. With the lack of reliability of flights, it is always good to leave some safety margin when going on a cruise. Many times our flights have been late which caused misconnections or have been cancelled all togehter. By arriving a day or more early, it gives us a chance to catch a later flight or a flight on a following day and still make it in time to our cruise.
When we travel overseas to board our cruise, or to any new city that we have never previously been to, we'll often arrive a week or more early so that we can tour that city before our cruise. We didn't need to do that for Orlando as we've been here many times before. We took two daughters here many times when they were little (they are now in thier late 30's). I also used to have a few family members that lived in the Orlando area that we'd visit from time to time. My sister, Margie, is the only one still living in this area.
Sometimes we'll book a hotel near the airport before and/or after our cruise and then use a transfer to / from the airport provided by the cruise line. We still need to take an Uber between the airport and our hotel unless the hotel has an airport shuttle, but it makes for a convenient transfer from the hotel to / from the cruise ship. I'm not sure why I didn't think of doing it on this trip.
We slept late and spent the rest of the afternoon catching up on some computer work. Later in the afternoon my sister, Marjie, took us to Walmart where we picked up a few items for our cruise, including twelve 6.9 ounce bottles of Diet Pepsi. On Royal Caribbean cruises you are allowed to bring up to twelve 7 ounce bottles of non-alcoholic beverages and one 750ml bottle of wine for each adult passenger. Bringing your own soda pop and wine is a lot less expensive than buying it onboard. But you have to bring it onboard in your carry-on luggage, not in checked luggage.
After shopping, Marjie took us to one of her favorite Thai restaurants in the area. The food there was very good and inexpensive.
After that Marjie drove us to the port to explore and get familiar where we would be bording our ship the next day. After that it was late and we headed back to our hotel.
