Lunch At The World Fresh Market Buffet
Theme Lunch 12pm-2pm: BBQ Corner & Vegetarian
Deck 16 Aft

The World Fressh Market Buffet is open every day from 6 am until 9pm. Pizza by the slice is available most of the day. Other available items vary during the day with breakfast items available in the morning, lunch in the afternoon, and dinner in the evening. From 12 Noon to 2 PM the lunch theme and from 5:30 PM to 9 PM the dinner theme varies each day. One day it will be Mexian, one day Indian, one day Italian, one day Vegetarian, etc. A lot of other items are available and vary all day, but the theme items are only out at set times.

For the first few days of the cruise the buffet was self-serve. We could take as much or as little of each and every item as we desired. But after a few people developed some GI problems, the cruise staff hightened the sanitation levels on the ship which requires the staff to serve each item instead of self-serve. In that way, you are not touching spoon and tong handles that are being touched by so many other passengers and are less likely to spread any illness.

However, there is a big problem with being served by staff rather than self-serve. The staff seems to have little understanding of when you ask for "just a little", "just a small spoonful", or "just a pinch". They still almost always serve too much of each item that we request. If we were serving ourselves, we'd just take a tiny bit of each item we wanted to try, usually not even filling up one plate of food. If there is an item we like a lot, we can always go back to the buffet to get more of it. But with their serving sizes, we each end up with two full plates and more. We are not big eaters, so that means a lot of the food they give us at the buffet goes to waste.

Shown below in the photo on the left are the four plates of food that we ended up with after trying to request just a tiny amount of each item we wanted to try.

In the above right photo is the food that I had left over. My wife, Barbara, had a similar amount of food left over in one of her plates, but the staff took it away before I could take a photo of it. We hate to waste food, and waste very little when we can take our own small servings with self-serve. But having the staff serve the buffet items definitely leads to a lot of waste of food.

Time Change

Ship's clock will be set half an hour back at 2:00 am between Tuesday night March 14th and Wednesday morning March 15th, 2003.

We are entering a strange time zone where we have to set the clocks back just 30 minutes rather than a full hour.
