This two-hour driving tour caters to passengers who want to see the sights of Lisbon, with little or no walking involved. Your first photo-stop is the unique Belem Tower, a lighthouse and fortress that sits on the banks of the Tagus River. View the nearby Monument to the Discoveries, an awe-inspiring stone structure, shaped like the prow of a ship and featuring statues of Portugal's great explorers. Drive past the 16th century Jeronimos Monastery, a magnificent Gothic building said to be the most important landmark in the city, then drive up the hill to the Alto do Parque Belvedere, a delightful open space that offers wonderful vistas of the city and harbor. You will also view the Avenue of Liberty, Pombai Square, the Rossio and Black Horse Squares and pass by the 25th of April Bridge, which offers distant views of the Christ the King statue.
Right near the cruise ship was a section of town where many restaurants and bars featured Fado, a Portugal form of traditional music. There is even a Museum Of Fado right across from the cruise port. Unfortunately, Fado does not begin until 8 PM at almost all the venues. However, we did find one where it did start today at 5:30 PM, Sao Miguel D'Alfama. Though the sign says that Fado is nightly at 7 PM, they did start at 5:30 PM. This might be because of the number of cruise passengers touring the city today.
