I forgot to take photos of our appetizers and main entrees but again they were delicious. For most nights two vegetarian items have been featured: the usual Indian entree plus one other entree. Today and yesterday I tried the alternate vegetarian entrees and both were excellent. I'm having a chance to try new and unique vegetarian entrees that I've never had before. I would happily order them again if they are featured again later on this cruise. The appetizer that I selected was a baked eggplant dish. It was so huge that I could have just had it for my main entree! I shared it with Barbara and there was still plenty for me. The above apple crumble pie was served with vanilla ice cream and it was also delicious.
We are not having as much luck with wine as we are with the food. The above wine was good, but again nothing I'd order again. This bottle cost $44 or $12 per glass. I've had Terraza Malbec Reserva a number of times before and it was excellent, but it was from older vintages, not from 2017. There are still a number of other wines that we intend to try from the restaurant wine list. Hopefully we'll find one or more that is not too expensive to order for the rest of this cruise. So far the Duckhorn Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon is the only wine we've found that we'd be willing to order again from the restaurant wine list.
Carnival is known for their dancing waiters during dinner. Some get dressed up and dance on top of pedestals while all the other waiters just dance in place at their stations around the dining room.
This was the first live music performance in the Spectacular Theater that we really liked, but our music tastes tend to be a bit picky. We love jazz, especially horns. The performer tonight was female vocalist and trumpeter Nicole Sasser who likes to go by the nickname "Sassy". She was very good at both singing and playing the trumpet. There were also some background trumpets that would play when she was singing but I think that was recorded and not live background music. There is only one other trumpeter on this cruise and he was playing at another venue at the same time as this performance.
One thing that was a little annoying is they left the doors at the rear of the theater open during the performance. Since we were sitting near the back of the theater, we could hear the live music performance from the Splendor Atrium Lounge quite clearly. Fortunately when "Sassy" was singing or playing the trumpet, the sound from her performance would drown out the music leaking in from the atrium and thus wasn't bothersome during the time she was playing or singing.
The Dynamite Horns finally got some spotlight time and they were great!
Above is some signage made out of the color changing bulbs that I mentioned yesterday. Sometimes it is a bit difficult to read these signs that are made up of individual bulbs that keep changing colors.
The Cool Lounge was definitely designed specifically for jazz performances as you can see by all the decor. Not only is there jazz related artwork on all the walls but even the support poles and table tops are covered with jazz artwork! There must have been a time when Carnival felt that jazz was an important part of daily entertainment on the ship and featured multiple jazz performances every night in this room. It must have been like how important Carnival believes comedy is in the way they feature 2 to 4 commedy performances every day and has a room, "The Punchliner Comedy Club", devoted to it. The Carnival Splendor rarely ever features jazz in this room any more. This room is no longer used much anymore. For example, all they used it for today was "Caricatures: Sign-Ups" at 12:30pm and 3pm and for "Seminar: Improve Walking & Posture" at 2pm. Carnival might be planning on turning this room into The Red Frog Pub since the Splendor currently does not have a Red Frog Pub which is part of the Carnival 2.0 upgrades. This room already has a stage, a dance floor, and a bar so it probably would not be difficult to convert. All they have to do is replace all the jazz decor, sadly. Or they could just leave the jazz decor even if they rarely feature any jazz. On my prior cruises the Red Frog Pub mostly featured classic rock, country, and sometimes latin jazz which is a totally different genre than standard jazz.
