Tour Duration: Approximately 5.25 hours.
Your destination today, the province of Pontevedra, lies to the south of Vigo. You'll drive to the beautiful medieval walled city of
Tui, located on a hill next to the Portuguese border on the River Mino. Visit Tui's imposing cathedral built in the 12th century
and later converted into a battlement-studded fortress -- the logical response to the frequent invasions endured by the town. Its
tower forms a magnificent balcony over the river and, from it, the city appears to be terraced out of the hill. A tasting of locally
produced wines awaits you at the beautiful Parador (state-owned hotel), which is a reproduction of a rural Galician country
house sat among mountains and rivers. Follow the border to El Rosal -- the part of the province where the majority of the
Ribeiro wine is made -- and continue to the coastal city of Bayona. See the Castle of Montreal. This old fortress is now the site
of a Parador, but retains its original outer walls with its battlements and sentry walks, clock tower and prince's tower. Relax
over some delicious tapas and sample more of the fabulous wines of Galicia. NOTES: This is an active excursion involving a
lot of walking. Some stairs and cobblestone walk to negotiate to access the balcony at the Cathedral in Tui. There are no rest
stops on the drive.
