2:45pm-4:00pm International Wine Tasting Experience $29
Wheelhouse Bar, Deck 7 Forward

We attended this same event on March 11 in the Skywalkers Bar and weren't intending to attend it again. But after they canceled so many tasting events, we decided to attend this one again. To see photos and comments from the last time we attended this event, visit CruiseRookies.com/photos/2024/03/2024c11a/. This one was also originally scheduled for the Skywalkers Bar but has been changed to the Wheelhouse Bar, one of our favorite venues. The last time we attended this event they set up stations for each country, but were missing one country as the server never showed up. Hopefully they will have all of the countries this time. Participants had to go from station to station and ask the person to give them a tasting pour. Each station featured one red wine and one white wine from each country. The food they had was just little snack items and was the same at all the stations. The only wine we really liked the last time we attended this event was the 2018 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Maybe they'll feature different wines this time, or maybe our taste buds will be in better shape and the same wines might taste better this time. But if it is like last time, they let us drink as much of any wine that we liked until the open bottles ran out. That alone could be worth $29 per person! I'm hoping maybe this time we'll just be able to find a comfy seat in the Wheelhouse Bar and the servers will go around pouring the wine instead of us having to go to each and every station. We'll have to see.

Post Event Comments

OK, so this event was similar to the past event in that they set up a station for each nation and we had to get up to get a pour for each white and red wine from each station. But that was OK. There must have been a problem with our taste buds the last time we attended this event. Last time we didn't like any wine other than the 2018 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This time we enjoyed most of the wines that were served even though they were the same wines that were served last time. We especially liked the Cabernet Franc. Like last time, the wines were served with an assortment of meats, cheeses and sweets. We did have to go to each station ourselves like last time where each station had one white and one red from each nation. At first the servers were pouring the wine for us as they described each wine from each nation. But later, they just let us pour our own wine. At the end, people were pouring themselves full glasses of their favorite wines. At the close, even the servers were going around giving pouring everyone full glasses of wine trying to empty the remaining open bottles. Overall it was a more fun event than the prior International Wine Tasting and well worth the $29.

We did tell the wine staff that one of the major problems they had of getting enough participants at many of the tasting events is that they didn't send a flyer explaning their wine events to every room. The art sales and spa sales send their flyers to every cabin several times during the cruise. But the wine and spirits tasting events never did this. They only promoted their events with fliers on a limited number of tables throughout the cruise ship, that most people ignored thinking they were promoting some wine purchase package. We advised them they should have delivered there wine and spirits flyers to every cabin on thes ship just like the art aucitons and spa specials to. Most passengers never even know of these events taking place.
