This ship is traveling in the opposite direction than our cruise, starting in San Antonio, Chile, and heading to Buenos Aires, Aregentina, and then on to ending at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
I wish to thank Colin Angus who will be joining this cruise with his wife in Santiago (San Antonio), Chile, and sent me an email clarifying the nature of these sunken ships:
The sunken ships are mostly abandoned fishing vessels and have been there many years. I photographed them on the same cruise on the Emerald Princess in 2018. Apparently the Uruguay Port Authority is now taking action to get the mess cleaned up - at one time there were about 50 abandoned vessels there. It wasn't clear in the news articles I have just read, as to how many have actually been removed. As you can imagine it is not easy, as many of them have fuel oil etc still in their tanks, which have to be removed first. Then the garbage that has floated in beside them over the years, before re-floating them and towing them away to a designated area where they will be broken up for recovery of all of the scrap metals.
Spend the day exploring the colorful sights and sounds of Montevideo. Take in the iconic landmarks, enjoy plenty of photo stops and visit the Spinoglio Winery for a tour of the wine cellars followed by a delicous lunch and wine tastings. Once on the coach, your driver will take you through Ciudad Vieja, the city's oldest neighborhood and home to famous tourist destinations such as the Solis Theatre, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Museo Torres Garcia. Then witness the majesty of the Legislative Palace, considered to be one of the most beautiful public buildings in the world. Along the way, your friendly and knowledgeable guide will regale you with the history and culture of your fascinating port city. Your tour ends at Spinoglio Winery. An inside visit takes you through the 19th century wine vault where you'll be treated to a tango performance, and lunch accompanied by local wines.
As we have found in much of our travels around the world, you can find Subway, McDonalds, Burger King, etc., in just about every major city worldwide. They don't have Pizza Hut as they prefer their own local versions of Italina Pizza.
This pool has a retractable roof. The roof will probably remain closed for much of this cruise as we will be traveling in some pretty cold areas. The lounging area also has an upper level.
We each grabbed one slice of vegetable pizza from Prego Pizzeria along with a glass of wine from Vines Wine Bar for dinner. After the huge lunch at the winery, we weren't hungry for much for dinner. Yesterday and today, Prego Pizzeria was totally empty of anyone getting any pizza in the evening while we were there. That may because on both days the Princess Event Listings mistakenly said it closed at 6:30pm when in reality it closes at 9:30pm. They fixed that mistake on the Thursday Princess Event Listing.
We visited a number of lounges with live music in the evening. But since photos and names of those performers were posted on yesterday's web page, I am not repeating them on today's web page.
