What you will visit:
Richmond
Nestled within farmland and wine country, Richmond is a beautifully preserved Georgian village. Established in 1825, five years before Port Arthur, Richmond is a genuine village of slate and cobblestone, handmade brick and mellow stone, cottages and manors. Explore the historic old jail and many of the well-preserved buildings that have been converted into shops, galleries and tearooms. Richmond is also home to Australia's oldest bridge, church and jail, where one of its infamous inmates was convict Ikey Solomon, said to be the model for Dickens' character Fagin in Oliver Twist.
What you will see along the way:
Take winding roads past lush countryside, rolling hills and small farms en route to the historic town of Richmond in the center of the Coal River Valley.

The "Drink Tasmania Tasting House" was not a part of the tour but just a whiskey tasting room that we found while walking around the town of Richmond. It was the best part of this entire tour! We puchased one paddle of "brown" spirits (whiskies and ryes) and one paddle of "white" spirits (vodka and gin). They were fantastic! Much better than the wine on this tour. All of them came from local Tasmania craft distilleries. One of the Tasmanian whisky and rye were smokey and peaty, just the way we like them! We are thinking of someday coming back to Tasmania just to tour all the many craft distilleries, breweries and wineries.
Notice how empty is the Crown Grill Steakhouse in the above left photo. On our prior cruise it was hard to get a reservantion at the Crown Grill Steakhouse for anytime on the cruise and there were no spots available at all on the last 3 days of the cruise. For this entire cruise, all of the upscale pay extra restaurants were almost totally empty. I don't know if it is a culture thing with Australians who maybe just don't like paying extra when all the meals at the buffet and main dining restaurants are free.
This was supposed to be another performance of "Fireworks on Four Strings" as we saw on the first half of this cruise. Unfortunately, Chris Watkins fell down in Melbourne and hurt his thumb as well as other parts of his body. He wasn't in any shape to dance around the stage as required in "Fireworks on Four Strings." But, he promised to be healed enough to come back on the last night of the cruise to do that performance.
We ordered two Manhattan Doubles on the rocks. It contains Bourbon which we like. It tasted a bit like an Old Fashioned. It was OK. We mostly take drinks neat and straight up so this tasted a bit diluted.
