An island about 300 miles west of the African coast settled by Portugal several centuries ago.
Experience the city's scenic beauty from above and below when you ride a cable car from Funchal to Monte for a tour of Our Lady of Monte Church. Erected in 1818, the church features a twin-towered facade and a large churchyard with spendid views over Funchal. Following the tour, you'll hop inside the unique 'carros de cesto,' a wicker baset set on runners pushed by guides, for a ride down the slope back down to Funchal. Then, enjoy a taste of Madeira with a tour of the Brandy Wine Lodge. Sitting in the heart of the city, the family-owned winery dates back 200 years and boasts some of the island's finest Madeira wines. During your guided tour, you'll learn about the different types of Medeira wines, and how to sip and savor this elixir synonymous with the island. Enjoy a visit to the gift shop before returning to your ship.
This was quite a disappointment considering Casablanca, Morocco, was supposed to be the highlight of this cruise. That is why this is called the 16 Day MOROCCAN Passage Cruise. We've never been to Casablanca, but we've already been to Gibraltar twice before and have gone to the top of the rock both times. Barbara and I won't be going to the top of the rock for a third time. Instead, we'll try to find some other shore excursion in Gibraltar.
A Lisbon Personal Locator From was slipped under the door of every cabin this afternoon. It wasn't a form to be filled out, but rather instructions on how to complete the form online. Unfortunately, there is extremely poor to no internet on this cruise. Thus, it is impossible to fill out this form online, and it is supposed to be filled out by the end of today, 96 hours prior to arriving in Lisbon! Guest Services said they are going to send a printed form to be filled out to every cabin. How they are going to turn this into the Lisbon authorities 96 hours before we arrive, I have no idea, as we still had not received the form by the end of the day.
