None of the airline loungers were open but most of the food venues were open. However, they were only open for take-away. All the chairs were put up on top of the tables so that customers could not sit at any of the restaurants. The bars were open but only for coffee, soft drinks and food. No alcohol was for sale as they are not allowed to sell alcohol to go.
As you can see above this is both a European Style 220 volt outlet and an American Style 110 volt outlet. From the photo I could not tell if it is also an Australian style outlet. But since Qantas is an Australian airline, I assume it is also an Australian style outlet. Though I was able to plug in my notebook computer, Qantas does not offer WiFi on their international Boeing wide body jets at this time.
The latest CDC Covid-19 policy requires that passengers arriving into the United States from Australia self-isolate for 14 days. We do not think we caught Covid-19 but we plan to remain in our house for the next 14 days. That will take us to April 7, 2020, the day our original 28 Round Australia cruise was supposed to end and the scheduled day for our original return flight to the USA.
Update: A few days after we arrived home we received both an email and a phone call that one passenger on our Sea Princess cruise had been diagnosed with Covid-19. This was after all passengers had disembarked. They advised us that we should self-isolate for 14 days after our disembarkation day of March 18, 2020. That would take us to April 1, 2020. Since we are already abiding by the US Covid-19 policy to self-isolate for 14 days after entry into the United States, we are already staying in our house until April 8, 2020.
Today is Wednesday, April 1, 2020, 14 days after we disembarked from the Sea Princess cruise ship. We have no symptoms of Covid-19 and thus should be past the monitoring period of having caught it while on the cruise. We have 7 more days to go of self-isolation and monitoring as prescribed by the U.S. policy of self-isolating for 14 days after returning to the U.S. from foreign travel.
On our drive home from the airport on March 25, 2020, the Southern California freeways were eerily absent of much traffic. Normally on a weekday morning between 6 AM and 9 AM, Southern California freeways would be packed with rush hour traffic, in both directions. But on the drive to our Anaheim house there was very little traffic in either direction. Except for pharmacies and supermarkets, almost all the stores are closed. When we departed Sydney, Australia, the retail stores and shopping centers will still open. In both Sydney and California all pubs and restaurants are close except for take-away and delivery.
My wife and I used to eat out a lot at pubs and restaurants, but have not and will not be able to do so while they are all closed due to the government Covid-19 response policies. In the past we have rarely used any food delivery services except for a pizza once in a rare while. For the first time we signed up for a food delivery service, PostMates.com, and have used it a few times already since we've been back to the U.S. for 7 days. We selected PostMates rather than DoorDash, GrubHub or UberEats as PostMates offers delivery from most of our favorite restaurants. For less than $100 per year they wave all delivery and service fees from their partner restaurants and wave the delivery fees from their non-partner restaurants. At least we feel we are helping keep a number of restaurants in business that have been hard hit by the ban on allowing people to eat in restaurants.
