Experience the places which made Rome immortal by observing it from another point of view on board a double-decker bus. Along your route, a very informative audio guide will help you understand the incredible history and the splendor of the art that makes Rome a truly fascinating city.
Your tour starts at the pier with a 90 minute transfer by coach to the heart of Rome. Once there, you'll transfer to your double-decker sightseeing bus. These buses travel a circuit all day long and have stops at some of the city's most iconic monuments and cultural venues. The beauty of the Hop-on, Hop-off option is that you can choose which stops you want to leave the bus and explore at your leisure.
Stops will be made at the Colosseum, Circus Maximus, Piazza Venezia, The Vatican, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Barberini. These stops will enable you to visit places such as Vatican City with the wonderful St. Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum and its Archaeological Area, and the famous Trevi Fountain. You will also have the possibility of shopping at Via Nazionale and Via del Corso.
The tour is tape-recorded and individual earphones are available should you wish. The sightseeing buses run at a frequency of 25 minutes around each of the noted main interest points. You will be advised when to return to the main terminal in order to catch the transfer back to the ship.
Note: Walking on this tour is at the guests' discretion at any stops they choose to hop-off at. The tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the bus and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Most all stops have access to public restrooms. The duration will vary based upon the guests' choice of stops and time spent at each. The entire route without stops is approximately 3 1/4 hours. Only the lower deck of the bus is air-conditioned. For guests who have pre-arranged reservations for the Sistine Chapel, please be advised that reservations should not be any earlier than 12:00pm. Due to the popularity of the Vatican (Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's Basilica), security lines can take up or more than 2 hours.
Activity Level: Easy. Tours with this activity level involve walking over relatively level terrain, possibly some cobblestone, gravel, or a few steps. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
We got off the Hop On Hop Off Bus at this plaza and started hunting for a highly rated Italian restaurant where we knew there were many shops and restaurants.
Jameson & Beer Flight - $20. Available in Maltings Whisky Bar, Deck 7, Aft. PBP guests receive the 20% discount. When I ordered this at the Maltings Whisky Bar I had to show the above page from the Norwegian "Freestyle Daily" Guide to him as I guess he had not heard of this offering. I guess not too many people had ordered it. The ship has a lot of spirit tasting events that receive little promotion. You often have to search them out in the Norwegian "Freestyle Daily" Guide schedule or in the print in the bottom of the page. Some are only listed at the bottom of the page of the drinks menu in some of the bars. I'm sure they'd get a much better turn out at some of the spirit tasting events if they did more to announce and promote them. Another problem is that Norwegian often does all their spirit tastings on the same day holding one each hour or ever other hour on every Sea Day. How many spirit tastings can one attend in the same day? They really should spread them out over the entire cruise scheduling them in the evening after people return from the shore excursions. I'm sure it is a lot of the same passengers that like to attend many of the spirit tastings but it is difficult to attend more than one or two on the same day.
