Barbara, Happy 70th! Hope you're having a wonderful fun day of celebration and hope to see you in the Piano Bar. -- Rohan (Piano Man)
This was a disappointing wine for a Shiraz from Australia, especially at $43 for a bottle. There are a lot of very good Shiraz wines from Australia, and many of them are very inexpensive. For $43 per bottle they should be serving a better Shiraz. Our rating of this is wine is "Good" which for us is just one notch above "OK", and definitely below "Very Good" and "Excellent". We usually don't buy wine that is rated as just "Good" unless nothing else is available to purchase.
I forgot to take photos of our delicious appetizers but above is what Barbara ordered for her main course: Seafood Newburg - Shrimp, calamari, scallops, mussels, lobster cream, green peas pilaf.
Above is a photo of my main dish and the sides that we each ordered: Penne Siciliana - Zucchini, eggplant, tomato, mozzarella. Sides: Corn and vegetable succotash, steamed broccoli, sauteed green beans.
After dinner several servers brought over this cake, lit the candle, and sang "Happy Birthday"!
Many many months ago we had put in our request to attend the "Chef's Table" for today, Barbara's 70th Birthday, October 21st. Instead they assigned us to the Chef's Table for October 12th! Someone in reservations must have dyslexia switching the digits of the 21st to the 12th. We tried to change it to the 21st once we were on board but they said it was all booked up. So instead I figured I could make a reservation at the Pinnacle Steakhouse for Barbara's 70th Birthday. I went on the Carnival App to make the reservation. Unfortunately the App does not display the "date" when making Pinnacle Steakhouse reservations, it only shows the "day" of the week. So I went through the days trying to judge the correct Monday to make the reservation. Unfortunately I screwed up and went forward too many Mondays and ended up making the reservation for Monday, October 28th, instead of October 21st. Because there are no other specialty restaurants on the Carnival Splendor, we had no options left to make Barbara's 70th Birthday into a special dining event. But maybe it worked out for the best. We had gotten to know our servers in The Black Pearl Restaurant and they ended up making it special.
On a side note, with the Pinnacle Steakhouse being the only upscale restaurant on the Carnival Splendor, they sometimes turn it into an upscale Italian Restaurant some nights instead of a steakhouse. On the one night that we had a reservation they called us to let us know that they would not be serving steak but would be serving Italian instead. We cancelled our reservation as we really wanted to go there for a steak dinner. We rarely ever eat red meat so this would have been an exception for us. So far it seems that they always turn it into an Italian Restaurant on Mondays. We like Italian, but it is available so often everywhere on the ship at no extra cost that we didn't think it would feel like a special dinner.

A Birthday Salute to Barbara in the Grand Piano Bar by Rohan!
Rohan likes to get into character when playing the piano and singing. When playing Elton John, he adds some touches to look more like Elton John. When playing country songs, he dons a cowboy hat.
This is our "Go To" wine if we want a glass or a bottle of wine in any of the bars on Carnival as it is the only one that we rate as somewhat better than "Good". We rate it as "Good Plus", better than "Good", but not quite up to our rating of "Very Good". All the other wines available in the bars on Carnival we've rated as just "Good" or even the worse our just "OK" rating.
When we asked the server in the Grand Piano bar for a bottle of that wine, he said they didn't have that particular wine at that bar. I thought that was odd as I am pretty sure all of the bars on the Carnival have this wine. Instead I decided to go up to our room and get a bottle of one of the wines we had purchased earlier on the cruise from the more extensive restaurant wine list. But, as I was walking through the hallways back to our room, I ran into Debbie, our sometimes bartender at the El Mojito Bar who gave my wife the purse present. She also does serving in the Grand Piano Bar sometimes too. I told her that the server said they don't have the Gifft Red Blend in the Grand Piano Bar. She said they definitely have it in the Grand Piano Bar and that she would get it for me. So, I returned to my seat in the bar and she brought it over to us. When the other server saw it, he said he thought I was asking about some other wine.
