The Cool Lounge is probably one of the most underutilized venues on the Carnival Splendor. As you can see from the below photos, the decor shows that this lounge was specifically designed for jazz performances. During our 14 Day Hawaii Cruise in January 2019 and this 7 Day Mexican Riviera Cruise on the Carnival Splendor, this lounge was rarely used for any jazz performances. Today from 5:00 PM to 5:45 PM was one of those rare performances, Smooth Jazz with Trio Amigo. Actually it turned out to only be "Duo Amigo". I'm not sure what became of the "3rd Amigo", the Trombone player. On this cruise they did use the "Cool Lounge" a number of times for Karaoke. The room was pretty full for the Karaoke and they evened opened the bar.
While we were in this lounge I started to speculate what might become of this lounge when the Carnival Splendor goes into dry dock for a huge facelift in October this year in Singapore. I was thinking it might be large enough for the Red Frog Pub which is currently missing from the Carnival Splendor. But after further thinking I realize that cruise lines think in much bigger terms when they refurbish a cruise ship. More likely Carnival might just gut much of public Decks 3, 4 and 5 and totally revamp the size and layout of all the venues. Personally I think the Carnival Splendor does not have a layout as optimized as their newer ships. There are several areas either poorly or oddly utilized such as the Promenade, almost just a really long hallway with a stage and seating that connects the Splendor Atrium Shopping Area to a number of lounges at the rear of the ship.
We went all out this evening with a Chocolate Martini, Espresso, and two different desserts. Since we select "Your Time Dining", we have different service staff each evening and won't have a specific set of service people to give a tip to at the end of the cruise. Instead we give a big tip on any drinks that we order, often as much as 40% or 50% above the 18% gratuity automatically added. I know a number of people ask for the same service staff every time they come to the dinning room for "Your Time Dining". I don't really see why I should ask for the same service staff everything evening just so that I have a specific set of people to tip. I can understanding asking for the same service people if they make a special impression and you'd like to eat at one of their tables every evening.
