Above are photos of the "Ol' Fashioned BBQ" in the Aft area of Deck 10. A lot of passengers never manage to find this eating spot. It is a bit hard to find. The easiest way to get to it is from a stairway in The Lido Buffet on Deck 9. You have to walk to the furthest aft inside area in The Lido Buffet area to find this stairway. In addition to the BBQ Serving Station, there are also a lot of dining tables in this area. Sometimes when the buffet is really crowded and you have trouble finding a table, there will often be a number of open tables in this somewhat hidden area on Deck 10. If you have difficulty with stairs, you can also get to this area using the most aft elevators on the ship.
Above is a photo of the towel animal that we found when we returned to our room. We've heard rumors that Carnival is planning on eliminating placing towel animals in the ship cabins each evening.
We stopped to listen to the Variety Violin Music in The Splendor Lobby for a while. They were quite good. The above photos were taken from the Deck 5 Level of The Splendor Lobby (also called The Atrium Lounge). The Atrium Bar and lounge are on Deck 3. Decks 4 and 5 can look down to see and hear the performances on Deck 3. The Atrium glass elevators actually go all the way up to Deck 10 and you can look down from any of those levels to see and hear the performance on Deck 3. Our room is on Deck 9 very close to The Atrium glass elevators and we can hear the live music from inside our cabin.
Get ready to say good-bye to the "pink donut" decor throughout the Carnival Splendor. Because of all the pink decor, and especially the "pink donut" designs throughout the ship, the Carnival Splendor is also known as "The Pink Lady". This ship is departing Los Angeles (Long Beach), California, to go to Singapore on October 5, 2019. My wife and I plan to be on that 24 day cruise. Once the ship gets to Singapore it is going into dry dock for a major facelift. From what I heard, the interior decor of this ship will be totally gutted. No more pink Italian decor! No more "pink donuts"! They will be upgrading it the ship to the Carnival 2.0 layout which will probably include venues such as Guys Burgers and The Red Frog Pub, etc. Carnival plans to make most, if not all, their ships have a similar set of venues. After the major facelift, the Carnival Splendor will be moved to Australia where it will continue to serve that market until further notice. Carnival is already accepting reservations for the Carnival Splendor cruises in Australia starting in December 2019.
The above photos were taken from the top row of the balcony on Deck 5 of The Splendor Spectacular Theater. This theater has entrances on Decks 3, 4 and 5. We thought we had fantastic seats to watch the performance. But, we did learn something new: Don't sit in the very top row of Deck 5 in the area where these is no aisle behind the top row of seats. Since there is no aisle to get through in that area, everyone uses the top row of seats as the aisle. We had to be constantly getting up to let people through! Next time we sit in that area of the theater we decided we will sit at least one level lower than the top row. The production that evening was '80s Pop To The Max. This is the description of the production: "We've got the hottest music video hits from the '80s in concert. From pop-rock of Duran Duran and Cindy Lauper to the smooth soul of Whitney and Michael. Like, totally awesome!" We did enjoy the production. We'll just select better seats next time.
After the show in the main theater was over at 9 PM we stopped by The Grand Piano Bar to listen for a while. Since doubles were only $3 extra that day, I ordered a Buffalo Trace double on the rocks. My wife had a Layer Cake Cabernet Sauvignon which wasn't bad. I noticed that the wines available in all the bars are the exact same wines listed on the 14 Day Splendor Carnival Hawaii Cruise that we took in January early this year. Thus, I already knew which wines I did and did not like in the bars for this cruise.
We passed through The Lido Pool and Stage area on our way back to our cabin where there was a '80s Rock-N-Glow Party going on.
