This is where I list my suggestions to Norwegian about their Escape Cruise Ship and this cruise. If you are looking for my suggestions to future cruisers on this ship, and sometimes my suggestion to cruising on any ship, then click here to read My Comments page.
I think Norwegian Cruise Lines could take a lesson from Carnival Cruise Lines regarding the boarding process. With Carnival, if you have provided all the required information before reaching the port, then you can board the ship without having to stop at the check-in registration desk. Both cruise lines have a TSA-like security screening and both take your photo for the keycard. But on Carnival you will find your keycard waiting for you in your stateroom. Carnival does have check-in registration desks, but only people who have not completed all their information online have to stop at those desks to complete the check-in process.
Once on board Norwegian should have as many of the restaurants and lounges open as possible with signs suggesting passengers consider having lunch at restaurants other than the Garden Cafe Buffet. Almost everyone seems to head for the Garden Cafe Buffet the moment they board the ship which creates a huge overcrowding situation. It is one of the few times where it seems like every passenger is trying to be at the save place at the same time. I'm sure that makes for a very bad impression to first time cruisers.
Being a wine lover, one of my first suggestions to every cruise line goes to the wine. If I had my way I'd love to have all the wines on the extensive restaurant wine list available in every bar on the ship. But if that is not practical, the limited list of wines available in each bar should be a bit more extensive and should cover the range from inexpensive to better more expensive wines by the glass and the bottle. Norwegian does a better job of this than Carnival, but both still have a very limited list of wines on the bar menus mostly on the low end of wines.
I definitely would like to have seen "The Cellars Wine Bar" open all during the cruise just like all the other bars on the ship. They should be open and serving wine by the glass, by the bottle, and offer tasting flights of wine. Since it is a "wine bar" they should have the same extensive wine list as is featured on all the restaurants on the ship and not the limited list available in the other ship bars. As I mention in another section of this report, I never saw The Cellars Wine Bar open except during the 9 wine tasting events held over this 7 day cruise. That seems to be inefficient use of venue space to me.
This was probably my biggest pet peeve. I understand they need to get passengers off the ship as soon as they can so that they can start boarding the new passengers for the next cruise. But, they really shouldn't call groups to disembark when the customs facility can't handle accepting more passengers yet. When we disembarked it was a cold and windy day. There was a huge line of people out on the cold windy dock waiting for their turn to enter the customs building. It would have been a lot more comfortable if we could have waited in the heated lounges in the ship until customs was ready for the next group of people.
I know I'm going to have more suggestions to Norwegian Cruise Lines from this cruise. I'll continue to add them to this page as I think of them.
