Most days the Mongolian Wok station at the buffet in the Lido Restaurant has a 20 to 30 minute wait. There are two lines at the Mongolian Wok station. You reach where you can start selecting items to put in your bowl when you are about 15 minutes away from your turn to have your selected food cooked in the wok. On the extra day we spent in Honolulu there was nobody at all in line. My wife and I stayed on the ship but I guess most others were touring on shore. So I took advantage of the empty line and had the Mongolian Wok for lunch.
Today at about 1 PM when I went up to get a cup of coffee for my wife and myself I noticed that the line at the Mongolian Wok was fairly short. So instead of getting coffee I decided to go to the Mongolian Wok station and get lunch for both of us. I took a large buffet plate so that I could put two bowls onto it to carry back to our room. I only had to wait a couple of minutes before getting to the point where I could start selecting the food items. I filled up the bowl mostly with veggies and avoided the more starchy items as my wife and I try to eat more nutrious less caloric foods.
At the Mongolian Wok station there are always two cooks, one handling each line. Each cook operates 3 woks simultaneously. It takes about 5 minutes to cook the food of each person so each cook is able to cook food for 3 people every 5 minutes. For the meat selection I think they always have chicken and beef. But for the fish selection they seem to alternate between salmon, shrimp and clams. I get the salmon when they have it, otherwise I get chicken as I don't like shrimp or clams. My wife usually gets the shrimp when they have it otherwise she also gets the chicken.
Today we went to the Carnival Deli on the Lido Deck for dinner. We heard the Falafel Wrap was good so we ordered that. The Daily Special was Chicken Tikka Masala which we like so we also ordered that. The Chicken Tikka Masala was served in a way we had never seen, on a French Roll. We declined the French Fries that came with it.
The Falafel Wrap was mostly lettuce but the Falafel in it was good. My wife and I both skipped eating most of the bread and just ate what was inside each. The Chicken Tikka Masala was also very good. The Masala sauce was excellent but much of it was stuck to the bread so we did eat the part of the roll that was saturated with the Masala sauce.
The Lido Restaurant tends to be pretty empty at dinner time every night. The above photos show what the Lido Restaurant looks like almost every night. They usually only have the Carvery food station open and there is usually just one section and one line of the Carvery food station open. There is plenty at the Carvery to select from, but the Lido Buffet Restaurant does not have an abundance of food stations nor a great variety of different types of foods available at dinner time. This is not what I've been used to on other cruises.
The amount of selections at lunch time is much greater than at dinner time. I'm not sure why this is the case. I guess almost everyone on this cruise is eating at either Early Dining, Late Dining, Your Time Dining, or the Pinnacle Steakhouse. The Pinnacle Steakhouse is the only specialty dining offered on this ship. The Mongolian Wok, the Tandoor Grill, the Burrito Bar and the Ol' Fashioned BBQ are only open for lunch, not for dinner. Even Off the Grill is only open from Noon to 6 PM. Other than the restaurants with reserved seating the only places to eat dinner are the Lido Carvery food station, the Deli, Pizza Pirate and Sushi at Sea.
We did the Mini Mule Tasting. Barbara got the first 4 mini mules on the mule menu and I got the next 4 mini mules on the mule menu. We each drank half of our mules and then swapped mules so we could both try all 8 of them. Our favorite was the Vanilla Mule. When we were done I purchased a full Vanilla Mule and brought it with me to the Grand Piano Bar which was right next door.
