Note: The Christchurch Cathedral was damaged beyond repair in the Christchurch earthquake of February 2011, almost two years to the
day after our visit. The earthquake destroyed the spire and part of the tower and severely damaged the structure of the remaining
building. Additional parts of the building suffered collapses in the June 2011 and December 2011 earthquakes. This cathedral,
which was built between 1864 and 1904, has been damaged by earthquakes many times over the years, but the one in February 2011 is
the only one to damage it beyond repair. The last status in 2017 is that the Anglican Church intends to rebuild the cathedral,
an effort estimated to take about ten years.
